R&D Test Systems approached Trifork to support the development of Bolt-Check—an ultrasonic bolt tension measurement system—requiring a robust digital foundation, intuitive user experience, and scalable software architecture to match the high precision of the hardware solution.
The objective of the project was to replace indirect torque-based measurements with a digital solution that delivers precise, repeatable, and fully traceable bolt tension verification. For customers such as Vestas, this meant faster installation processes, higher confidence in structural integrity, and improved documentation across the turbine lifecycle.
For Trifork, the case demonstrates how digital craftsmanship, UX excellence, and software architecture can unlock the full value of advanced industrial hardware. From the outset, the ambition was to move beyond prototypes and deliver a production-ready digital product. Trifork partnered closely with R&D Test Systems from an early stage to define the software vision, user journeys, and technical architecture that could support an industrial-grade solution.
R&D Test Systems needed a partner capable of taking responsibility across the entire digital product journey—from early concept and architecture to production-ready software operating in safety-critical environments.
Over a development period of more than 12 months, Trifork helped take Bolt-Check from concept to a mature, production-ready digital platform. The scope covered the full product lifecycle—from UX and UI design to implementation—resulting in two complementary applications forming a connected digital platform tailored to both field use and centralized administration and reporting. This ensured flexibility across installation, commissioning, and documentation workflows, while maintaining a consistent and intuitive user experience.
Trifork acted as a strategic technology partner, taking responsibility for shaping, building, and maturing the digital product alongside R&D Test Systems. The UX and UI were designed specifically for technicians working in demanding industrial environments, minimizing complexity and reducing the risk of human error.
The solution is built on a robust software architecture that enables reliable data handling, full traceability, and future scalability. Tight integration with the ultrasonic measurement hardware provides real-time feedback, structured reporting, and secure data storage, aligned with real-world workflows in wind turbine installation and maintenance.
In a relatively short time, R&D Test Systems achieved a significant level of digital maturity.
Bolt-Check evolved from an initial idea into a fully operational, production-ready product. The solution now supports industrial-scale deployment across sites, teams, and long service lifecycles in real-world operation.
