How Dalgas transformed a seasonal operation into a scalable digital platform for production and logistics

A seasonal business where precision matters

Christmas tree production is one of the most time-sensitive supply chains in agriculture. Within a few months, producers, packers, logistics teams, and distributors must coordinate the harvesting and delivery of hundreds of thousands of trees across multiple markets.

For Dalgas, one of Northern Europe’s leading Christmas tree businesses, maintaining control across this process is critical. As production volumes and operational complexity increased, the company saw an opportunity to modernise how production and logistics were coordinated.

“There was easily room for doubt when we used to get an A4 sheet with a drawing of where the pallets should go, especially when several pallets had almost the same colour code. With Pynfo it’s easier to avoid mistakes. If the pallet number isn’t on the overview, it’s the wrong pallet. It gives you peace of mind knowing everything is under control.”

From fragmented processes to one operational system

For years, Dalgas relied on a SharePoint-based system supported by spreadsheets, paper records, and manual coordination. When the system reached end-of-life, the business needed a replacement capable of supporting a highly specialised operation where mistakes can quickly ripple across the supply chain.

Each season involves coordinating hundreds of producers, thousands of deliveries, and hundreds of thousands of trees. Maintaining a reliable overview of orders, inventory, packing, and loading became increasingly difficult as complexity grew. Dalgas wanted more than a replacement system. The ambition was to create a single digital foundation connecting production, logistics, and order management across the entire value chain.

“Before Pynfo we had a packing list with departure dates and a pile of paper with different information. Now everything is in one place and I can easily print labels. That’s a huge plus. It also helps us plan ahead.”

Building Pynfo 2.0

Trifork began with a ride-along with Dalgas’ production team, mapping the physical reality of the entire process from producer to customer before development began. The result was Pynfo 2.0, a platform built specifically for the operational realities of Christmas tree production. Integrated with Dalgas’ ERP environment, the solution supports an efficient workflow accessible from desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.

Pynfo 2.0 covers the full operational chain: field marking updates inventory in real time, a tablet-based production module controls packing directly on site, and live status gives every stakeholder visibility of what is packed, loaded, and ready without a phone call. For logistics, printed pallet labels replace handwritten sheets, and a unified order overview handles load planning for hauliers. Invoicing data flows directly into Dalgas’ ERP, closing the loop from tree to delivery. By bringing operational information into one system, Dalgas established a common foundation for managing production and deliveries across the business, in a season where there is no margin for error.

“What started as a request to replace an end-of-life system became something more interesting: an opportunity to digitise an entire industry workflow from scratch. Pynfo 2.0 is the result of that ambition, built in close collaboration with the people who actually do the work in the field, and proven over multiple seasons before being offered to the wider market.”

From classroom insights to data-driven governance

The platform has changed how learning outcomes are measured and used across the cantons. Authorities gain reliable long-term data to evaluate reforms and guide policy decisions.

In classrooms, automated feedback enables more frequent writing practice and faster formative feedback. Teachers spend less time correcting and more time teaching.

For Trifork, the case shows how scalable platforms and AI create value in the public sector – turning education data into action at classroom and system level.
