Press Release, March 12, 2021

Trifork, the IT company behind solutions like the NemID code app and MobilePay, who are also known for running a large part of their development activities through investments in technology start-ups, takes the first step today in the construction of a unique and sustainable office building, based on intelligent technology solutions.

The building, named Trifork Smart Building One (TSBOne), will be approximately 3,000 m2 and will be built in Lisbjerg Business Park in Aarhus, Denmark. The building will be made of wood, with solar cells on the roof, and where design and technology work together, with all the technical installations, to minimize the building’s energy consumption – while at the same time ensuring an optimal indoor climate and working environment.

“Business-wise, this project gives us incredible insight and experience that we can utilize together with and for the benefit of our customers. We are convinced that Smart Building will be an important business area in the future. In addition, we get the perfect building designed for software development, with a fantastic indoor climate and environment, as well as a building that has a significantly smaller climate and environmental impact, in both the construction and operation phase”

Trifork CEO, Jørn Larsen.

The construction is a result of Trifork’s philosophy of developing software inspired by and in collaboration with customers. Within their business area, Smart Building, Trifork has customers who cover virtually all elements of a building. This means that software and intelligent solutions have been thought into every aspect of the building, from water supply and disposal, heating and cooling, electricity, ventilation, pumps, thermostats, windows, and sensors to control consumption, access conditions and parking.

“Our new office building will showcase many different products that we have developed together with our customers in the Smart Building business area. In other words, we’re taking the medicine we use to help our customers. The goal is to create a building that, through the choice of materials, new technology and most importantly smart thinking, will raise the bar for what can be achieved within sustainable office construction”

Søren Eskildsen, Head of Smart Building at Trifork.

Investment in a cleantech company

As a natural extension to the decision of developing a unique, intelligent office building, Trifork has invested in the cleantech company, Dryp, which uses IoT technology and big data to enable waterworks and wastewater companies to optimize operations and planning, including the prevention of sewer overflow and congestion of drainage systems.

The investment in, and collaboration with, Dryp was also planned into the new office building. This means that as part of the construction, a large tank will be built to collect rainwater and wastewater from the building. In collaboration with Aarhus Vand, and with the help of Dryp’s technology, the discharge of wastewater from TSBOne can be planned and adapted to the municipality’s drainage system, and thus help to avoid overflow in sewers.

“In short, our building will be connected to Aarhus Vand, which via Dryp’s sensor technology, can remotely control our collection tank and decide for itself when the water should be discharged,”

Søren Eskildsen, Head of Smart Building at Trifork.

Trifork’s administration department and the Smart Building business unit will move into the new office building in the summer of 2022. It is also the intention to further develop and refine the Smart Building concept through the construction of more office buildings.
