How do you create clarity in a healthcare system known for its quality – but also for its complexity? That’s the starting point for Compassana, an ambitious collaboration between Medbase, Hirslanden, Groupe Mutuel, Helsana, SWICA, LUKS Group, and Trifork. The aim is straightforward: to make the Swiss healthcare system easier to navigate – for both patients and healthcare professionals.
Despite being one of the best in the world, the system faces increasing challenges: low digitalization, staff shortages, and rising costs. Compassana sets out to be a digital companion on this journey, helping reduce errors, improve communication, and support coordinated care.
Compassana is not just about technology – it’s about people. Patients often find it difficult to keep track of their care journeys, and professionals lack a complete overview of treatments and medications.
That leads to miscommunication and inefficient care. The Compassana platform addresses this by offering a secure, shared space where treatment and medication information can be documented and exchanged. It also supports secure messaging between professionals, improving collaboration. The goal is to reduce errors, improve coordination, and provide a better experience for everyone involved in the healthcare process.
Trifork contributed the digital foundation for Compassana – from the initial patient app to the professional web portal. Based on the Trifork Health Platform, the solution draws on our experience with digital health in Denmark, adapted to fit the Swiss market. Built on industry best practices within cloud infrastructure, FHIR, and web technologies, the platform is operated by Netic and designed by Duckwise for a smooth user experience.
Testhuset ensured quality throughout development with dedicated testing and assurance. The result is a unified, intuitive platform that supports both patients and professionals – bringing them together in one digital ecosystem.
While Compassana is a long-term initiative, the first milestones are already in place. Patients now have access to their health data and can more easily connect with healthcare providers. Professionals benefit from tools that improve documentation and collaboration. The next phase is about integrating the platform even further into clinical workflows.
For Trifork, Compassana has been an important experience in adapting our health platform to a new context – combining learnings from both the Swiss and Danish healthcare systems. It shows how Trifork’s digital health solutions can be tailored to meet the unique needs of various global markets, while still keeping people at the centre.
