In partnership with Vilea, a Trifork company, Edelweiss Air developed FlyPad, a powerful mobile app designed to streamline and enhance the work of their cabin and cockpit crews. The collaboration addressed key operational needs, with Vilea providing end-to-end design and development expertise.
Edelweiss Air, a Swiss leisure airline of the Lufthansa Group, operates from its hub at Zurich Airport. With a fleet of over a dozen Airbus aircraft, Edelweiss serves more than 70 destinations across 34 countries, offering a range of short, medium, and long-haul routes. Known for its commitment to passenger satisfaction and operational efficiency, Edelweiss Air has consistently prioritized high-quality service, safety, and innovative solutions to enhance flight operations and customer experience.
“FlyPad has transformed Edelweiss Air’s in-flight operations, providing crews with the required information that enhances their response to dynamic flight conditions. Real-time insights and efficient record-keeping strengthen the training and decision-making, creating a digital foundation that supports Edelweiss Air’s growth and commitment to crew empowerment.”
Edelweiss Air needed a centralized solution to deliver relevant, real-time information to flight crews to improve the efficiency. The app’s scope included up-to-the-minute access to flight information, passenger lists, equipment statuses, and any operational irregularities. Additionally, the app facilitates training and assessments, enabling trainers to evaluate tasks and gather feedback through digital forms that are automatically converted to PDFs for internal distribution.
The team’s backend requirements included interfaces to generate detailed business intelligence reports on crew activity, assessments, and critical operational metrics.
Vilea worked closely with Edelweiss Air to understand their operational needs and deliver a tailored, user-centric solution. Initially focusing on cabin crew assessments, the project expanded into a comprehensive application for both cabin and cockpit crews. Leveraging Apple’s native technologies, Vilea designed an intuitive user interface, supported by a middleware backend that integrates seamlessly with Edelweiss Air’s systems.
The FlyPad app provides flight crews with customized information according to their duty assignments. It ensures easy access to passenger lists, current flight details, and operational updates, while trainers can perform assessments and collect digital responses, which are processed in the backend. Business intelligence integration also enables real-time data analysis, delivering insights into crew performance, duty logs, and operational status.
Launched in 2019, FlyPad remains in active use with regular updates and feature expansions. Most recently, a companion app was created to support training for new crew members, extending the FlyPad platform to offer practical, scenario-based learning.
