The Background

ELU is a leading designer and consultancy firm in the construction, civil engineering, and water technology sectors, as well as in the geotechnical field. With over 50 years of industry experience, a team of approximately 240 skilled employees, and offices in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö, ELU executes a variety of structural projects, including bridge and building design. Their commitment to delivering high-quality engineering solutions and expertise has positioned them as trusted leaders in the industry.

The Need

As ELU continues to grow, managing resources across multiple projects has become increasingly important to ensure that the right people are assigned to the right tasks at the right times. ELU needed a solution that would not only optimize their project planning but also provide a clear, unified view for all employees, enhancing transparency and satisfaction.

“Our Building Engineering Department is very satisfied with Planning Intelligence Platform. It provides a unified, transparent, and realistic plan for all our activities. Employees have clear visibility into both current and future tasks, while management can assess workloads, set priorities, and offer clients realistic delivery timelines. The Bridge Engineering Division is looking forward to benefiting from these same advantages soon too.”

The Approach

To address these needs, ELU partnered with Trifork (formerly Marstrand) to develop a comprehensive resource management solution. A series of workshops were held with senior employees and specialists, and the final solution was tested after only eight weeks. The solution includes several key perspectives that provide the company with the necessary overview:

  1. Overview of resources with qualifications and roles for all employees.
  2. Time overview with working hours, absences, vacations, and planned training.
  3. Project overview with duration, associated employees, and workloads.
  4. Double Gantt chart view where projects/employees can be moved around, showing the consequences of these changes.

The Results

Since implementing this resource management solution, ELU has achieved several key benefits:

  • Enhanced Transparency: Employees can now see the projects they and their colleagues are assigned to, both now and in the future, leading to higher satisfaction and improved morale.
  • Improved Work Planning: With a clear view of individual tasks and workloads, employees are better equipped to plan their workdays efficiently.
  • Optimized Management Oversight: Management has a forward-looking view of team capacity, enabling timely adjustments, such as hiring and training, to meet future project demands.
  • Increased Flexibility and Predictability: Planning has become more flexible and accurate, resulting in greater predictability across project timelines.

Initially launched within ELU’s Geotechnics and Construction department, this solution is now being expanded company-wide, empowering all employees to work more effectively and strengthening ELU’s reputation for project excellence.
