Ben Gesoff, a senior consultant at Opencredo, talks about his journey in this interview
Give us an overview of what it is like working at OpenCredo and the projects.
In the last 9 months, I have worked on several projects one involving Terraform Provider Development for a well-known company in the tech industry. Most recently I have been working on a project with a large toy manufacturer on shipping platforms in the infrastructure and ops development. This gave me a great opportunity to learn with engineers and gain knowledge.
You joined OpenCredo in the middle of lockdown. How did you find that?
Strange at first. Never met anyone in person or saw the office. I assumed the company just existed on the screen. After the first few weeks, it became normal as I spoke to a lot of people on Zoom and during virtual social events We already work digitally anyway and are well set up to handle working remotely without too many adjustments to the way we work. But I am really pleased to go into the office.
Do you prefer working from home, going into the office or like having the flexibility?
Depends on the projects. If I know what I am doing and am able to work on my own I would prefer to do it at home as I can talk to myself and keep focused. If it’s something new or I am trying to learn something or collaborating with other consultants on a whiteboard then there is no replacement for an in-person discussion. It’s nice that we can do a bit of both.
What drew you to OpenCredo as a company to work for?
The variety of projects in terms of technology and the people I work with and the size of the team. I learned a lot more and gained certifications in AWS, and Kubernetes to fill in the gaps. It’s great being in an environment that encourages where I can use those tools and get hands-on experience on the projects.
What’s a typical day like at OpenCredo?
The day to day can be really different. My previous role was working on one product at a time which of course does have its own perks but I enjoy the different projects OpenCredo has to offer and as a result, I have gained huge amounts of experience and knowledge from the get-go with the team I joined. Being able to do that 3 or 4 times a year is great because there is so much to learn. I haven’t been disappointed since I started.
What would you tell a friend who was thinking about joining Opencredo?
I would recommend it as all my friends like learning new things. Anyone considering joining OC should be ready to adapt to different situations as you have to speak to people you don’t know very well in other companies. You will learn a lot technically and gain new skills – If that’s the thing you enjoy, it’s perfect for you! This blog is written exclusively by the OpenCredo team.
